Encapsulated Seeds (Encapsulated Wildflower Seeds R & D Ltd) is a family business based in Ceredigion, Wales, who have innovative patented and trademarked technology for being able to grow grass on compacted land and gravel driveways.
The magic is that this can be achieved without the need for topsoil or turf, as opposed to conventional methods. This can achieve results within a 17-day period at a temperature of around 70 Degrees F. using RIZA TM technology. Another salient point is that it can cut preparation costs by at least 50%. We have been supported by Richard Bonfield of Xenos (Finance Wales) in pushing our technology forward both throughout the UK and in to foreign markets for export.
RIZA technology works by Ion charge driving the roots through compacted areas, such as gravel driveways where trials where completed at Weston Park, the former home of the Earls of Bradford, a beautiful heritage park that was suffering from the large volume of traffic taking away the road verges and causing them to become bare, causing damage to the beautifully ascetic parklands, a site worth visiting for peace and tranquillity.
Encapsulated Seeds were given the opportunity by Stuart Craddock, Park Operations Manager, and Michael Evans, Balfours, to conduct trials.
Sharon Haydney, Commercial Director of Encapsulated Seeds, travelled to Weston Park to conduct trials in mid-June 2007, three small trials were completed around the Park; photographs were then taken of the small trial areas on 4 July 2007, after the 17-day period. These trials were witnessed by Terry Brownhill (Environmental Services) Eaton Management Ltd.
In September 2007, Encapsulated Seeds then completed three acres of compacted areas of land at Weston Park.
Due to the fact that Weston Park is a charitable trust, we were very happy to assist in reducing our costs and obtaining the assistance of Advanta Seeds to supply the grass seed specification at reduced costs to assist Weston Park, we as a company use Advanta Seeds grass seed, due to it’s high quality and have used their seed on a variety of trials across the world in 2007.
The trial results show that RIZA achieved the desired results of lush green grass, which was supplied by Advanta Seeds for charity purposes to Weston Park, through their supplier Arthur Evans, based in Llandysul, Wales.
RIZA works by causing a chain of reactions that increase the germination of the grass seed and heats the ground temperature by at least 3 degrees, hence the results are achieved quicker the grass grows in uniform and is much thicker and stronger. Once a period of 28 days has elapsed after a trial has been completed the roots are well established and have been driven through the compacted area of ground.
RIZA is a unique technology that can be used in a variety of applications, such as Brownfield sites, property development, parklands, sports pitches and on contaminated lands, such as mines and quarries, where again Encapsulated Seeds can achieve results in a short period of time.
